Being With God...While Letting Him Be God (Part 3)

We can actually

relate to God

and
be with God

because of
His beyond-us-ness

I
t is the characteristics of God which are inaccessible and un-relatable that actually enable and fuel His desire to relate to us.

We can be thankful that He is different than us. (see Psalm 139)

Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me...

You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.

You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head...

I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!

could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in darkness I cannot hide from you...

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb...

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book.Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

Do you see how God's transcendence and immanence are tied together in His love for us?

God likes me because He made me.

He loves me because He understands my thoughts.

He takes care of me because His attention and power are committed to me.

He can take me through darkness, because He made it.

He planned my life, my birthday, my parents, and my family because He wanted me to be born and live with Him.

He made me and He wants me to live.

His closeness is tied to His greatness.

His ministry to His mystery.

His presence to His power.

His healing to His holiness.

He is intimate because He is infinite.

Only when I see God as all-powerful unlike me, then I can see how amazing it is that He is with meGod's nearness and favor is meaningful because of His greatness, separateness, beyond-ness.

What might it be like to pray to a God who is beyond you like this?

How might this shape the way you talk to Him?

What types of things would you want to tell Him?

What would it be like to do that right now?

  2. ". . . for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every intent of the thoughts . . ." I Chron 28:9 Can't get more with us than that. It is amazing that such a big God wants to be with us.
